Dub FX uses a Boss RC-50 along with a GT-10 effects pedal to create vocal-only beats, and then raps over the top. His music in infused with drum and bass, hip-hop and dub step influences, and he has being turning heads across the world with his street performances. After having built up a solid fan-base, he has released several records, including a solo album, Everythinks a Ripple, and many collaborative works. He still travels the world, and seems set to bring looper pedals some much deserved attention from across the genres. We caught up with him to find out a little more about his music and his use of the RC-50.

Digitech recently announced the new JamMan Solo looper pedal and brought it to the 2010 NAMM show. The JamMan Solo preserved much of what was great about the original JamMan, then improved upon it and crammed it into a smaller package - a blessing if you already have an overcrowded pedal board like mine.

While Digitech's original two-pedal JamMan has many loyal fans, the pedal also has its flaws. Many people complain that, while it is a great practice machine, it is too unreliable to take on stage. Although the jury is still out on Digitech's new JamMan Stereo Looper, the future looks promising for this new entry into the looper pedal market.

Using a looper pedal is probably the best way to improve your guitar soloing. Most looper pedals have the same basic functionality. One pedal is usually reserved for recording, playing, and overdubbing. On the first tap, it records you playing, the 2nd tap stops the recording and starts the looping, and a third tap allows you to overdub. You then build up your backing track, and stop whenever you’ve got enough going on to have a good time playing over the top of it. Most loopers also allow you to undo your last recording, switch between different loops, reverse loops, play along to a drum track and change the tempo of your recordings.
